The Battle of the Gyms

When Caleb was a baby we were given a little baby gym. You know, the kind that you hang toys from and they supposedly enjoy swatting at them? Well, Caleb was never very interested. I guess he didn't see the point. He was much more interested in the other gym thingie we had. It played music and had flashy lights. He's just a flashy-light-electronic-toy lovin' boy.

So, that being said, we still have both of these baby gyms. I decided to pull out the first one (which, incidentally, is shaped like a hippo) and try them on Maddie. I'm sure nobody is surprised that Madeline prefers the non-electronic hippo-shaped toy gym. She loves batting at, grabbing, and trying to eat the toys. She coo's with delight at the non-moving, non-flashing, unexciting toys. That's not to say she hates the flashy light gym thingie, but she does get bored with it easily. You can't catch it, and you can't chew on it.

The other day I was watching Maddie enjoy her hippo inspired toy. Caleb wandered in, and in a flash of recognition realized that it was HIS hippo inspired toy. He promptly grabbed Maddie around the waist, scooted her over, and joined her under the toy bar. It was a tight squeeze, but Maddie didn't mind. She thought the whole thing was hilarious. Nobody is as fascinating to her as Caleb. They played under the silly thing for a good fifteen minutes, which is about 50 years in toddler-attention-span time. What can I say? You never know when they'll do something cute.

Post-Call Drowsy Daddy

Josh is often sleepy after call. Caleb decided he would help with Daddy's nap. Of course, he didn't want a nap himself, he just wanted to tuck Daddy in. :-)

Play Milestones

We have a couple of new milestones in great childhood playthings to report. Caleb has discovered the joys of Playdoh. We were saving it (a Christmas gift) for a rainy day, and what better rainy day than the one we just had. It makes me laugh that they're calling it "Ice Storm 2009". I guess that makes it sound more interesting to have a title.
Maddie is also enjoying her new toy experience. She's finally coordinated enough to sit in the exer-saucer. She simply loves it. We have to pad her in a bit so she doesn't fall sideways, but other than that, she's good.

Hair

So today I decided to play hair stylist and fix Maddie's hair. We've got to do something. It tends to get in her eyes. Yes, at three months old she has enough hair to get into her eyes. I have to say that I love it. For her very first hair do, I thought it was only appropriate to do the Pebbles ponytail thing. After that, we just swept it into an eighties-inspired side pony and left it at that. There is only so much pulling and tugging a baby will put up with. Naturally, Caleb had to help with the photo shoot. I wouldn't have it any other way. :-)

They grow up so fast...

Madeline is growing up so fast. Lately she's been swatting and grabbing at the toys on her toy bar. If you put a toy in front of her, she can even grab it and get it to her mouth. She desperately wants to sit up on her own, so don't be surprised if she masters that next!

A Little Bit 'o Love

Well, I was looking for a cute theme-y background for the blog. Unfortunately, while I was playing around, I saved a new background by accident. Now we're stuck with a Valentine's Day theme until my site that I get the cute backgrounds from gets running again. They've crashed, but as soon as they're fixed I'll be looking for something a little different. I'm not so sure I love this one.

Happy Birthday Josh!

Today is my wonderful hubby's birthday. We had a mini party on Saturday with a little cake. Since his present was the Orange Box for his X-Box, I thought I'd make a themed cake. The cake is portal themed, but I also had to make actual Portal cake. I used cupcakes to make mini versions.
The funny part was that Caleb got all excited and thought it was his party. When he realized there was cake, he asked for candles and started pretending to blow them out. We didn't have the heart to tell him it wasn't for him, so we lit the candles on the cupcakes and let him blow them out. He had a great time and ate some cake, so I don't think he noticed that there weren't presents for him to open.

This was just such a cute picture that I had to include it. :-)

Happy New Year!

Happy 2009! Now I have to remember to write the new date on my checks. I'm sure I'll have it by April or May.
